The ACLU champions transgender people’s right to be themselves. We’re fighting discrimination in employment, housing, and public places, including restrooms. We’re working to make sure trans people get the health care they need. We’re fighting to protect the rights and safety of transgender people in prison, jail, and detention facilities as well as the right of trans and gender nonconforming students.
The Transgender Justice Program (TJP) in Missouri is an opportunity to raise awareness about the challenges faced by the transgender community and challenge barriers to equality in our state. We will work to lift up transgender leadership and build a network of organizers committed to making Missouri a more welcoming, inclusive state.

In doing this work, we’ve learned that one of the most important things we can do is to center transgender people in the education of the public, the media, and lawmakers about who transgender people are, why anti-transgender policies are harmful, and how nondiscrimination laws provide important protections.
