Jamie Sgarro (he/him) joined the ACLU of Missouri as a Skadden Legal Fellow in September 2025. His fellowship focuses on enforcing, strengthening, and expanding state and federal legal protections for transgender Missourians. As a trans man, he is thrilled to use his law degree to help more trans people live freely.
Before joining the ACLU, Jamie served as the co-founder and inaugural executive director of InReach (formerly AsylumConnect), a tech nonprofit that developed the first open-source verified LGBTQ+ resource platform. Under his leadership, InReach grew into a national organization and connected half a million LGBTQ+ people facing persecution and discrimination with safe resources. He has advocated for LGBTQ+ rights in national media and at influential venues.
While leading InReach, Jamie earned his Juris Doctor from Northeastern University School of Law’s FlexJD program. During law school, he helped launch the #TransMascFutures Campaign to amplify stories of trans joy and interned with Northeastern’s NULawLab and Program on Human Rights and the Global Economy. He holds a Master of Science in Management from Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management and a Bachelor of Arts cum laude with distinction in Health and Societies from the University of Pennsylvania.
