The ACLU of Missouri filed a lawsuit on behalf of Curtis Farber who originally filed a complaint with the St. Louis Metropolitan Police in which he accused multiple officers of criminal misconduct and threatening to falsify evidence. In 2015 Farber made a formal Sunshine Law request for the police department to release to him a copy of the unredacted IAD report relating to his complaint, which he was denied. The St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department withheld officer complaint records even after a second request in 2016. Because this refusal violates the Sunshine Law, the ACLU of Missouri filed the lawsuit against SLMPD.
