The American Civil Liberties Union of Eastern Missouri will present its Civil Liberties Award to Brenda Jones at the 41st Annual Bill of Rights Celebration, from 7 to 11 p.m., Friday, Sept. 14, at the Soulard Preservation Hall in St. Louis.
Jones is being recognized for her extraordinary contributions to defending and promoting civil liberties. She has been the executive director of the ACLU-EM for the past eight years and will be retiring at the end of this year. “I’m deeply moved by this show of support from the colleagues who’ve been on this journey with me these past eight years and who’ve been instrumental in our accomplishments,” said Jones. She joins the ranks of past Civil Liberties Award recipients, who include former Congressman Bill Clay, Harriet Woods, Frankie Freeman, Thomas F. Eagleton and ACLU founder Roger Baldwin.
Tickets for the 41st Annual Bill of Rights Celebration are $75 for general admission and $30 for students, which includes a full open bar, hors d’oeuvres and dessert from restaurants such as Flaco’s Cocina, Herbie’s Vintage 72, Park Avenue Coffee, Pickles Deli and The Royale. Music will be provided by Bridge, a jazz fusion trio. All proceeds from the event will benefit the ACLU-EM’s legal and public education and advocacy programs.
