“We are deeply concerned with the reports of excessive use of force by law enforcement officers at a demonstration Friday night in downtown St. Louis.
It appears that officers yet again have demonstrated hostility toward the U.S. Constitution and the rights of the people by gratuitously using pepper spray and Tasers in a crowd.
The right to assemble is protected by the Constitution. An assembly does not become unlawful just because the police want it to end.
We hope officers in the St. Louis region will change their tactics.”
