ST. LOUIS, Nov. 5, 2007 – The ACLU of Eastern Missouri is proud to announce the 36th Annual Bill of Rights Celebration taking place Saturday, December 1, 2007 at The Pageant. The program features award winning actor, singer and activist Harry Belafonte and includes a performance by the musical group A Taste of Motown.
Harry Belafonte has dedicated his life to uniting people for causes often considered controversial. This dedication goes back to the civil rights movement in the United States when he united cultural elements behind the marches in Selma and Montgomery, Alabama, as well as the Freedom March in Washington, D.C. in 1963.
Belafonte has been called “the consummate entertainer” – an artist in every field in which he has participated – a recording artist; a concert singer; a movie, Broadway and television star and producer. His activities in the human rights struggle are globally respected. His awards and recognitions encompass both worlds –artist and humanitarian.
Richard Dreyfuss was previously scheduled to appear but is unable to attend because of illness.
The event’s musical guest, A Taste of Motown, is a 14-member ensemble led by vocalist, producer and director AJ Sr., who has performed with the greatest legends of the Motown Sound.
Tickets are priced at $125.00 for single tickets, which include dinner and performance; $30.00 for reserved balcony seating for the performance only. There is a private reception with Mr. Belafonte in the Halo Bar. The price for the VIP reception, dinner and performance is $250.00 per person.
All proceeds from this event benefit the ACLU of Eastern Missouri Fund.
