On Aug. 29, 2013 the American Civil Liberties Union of Eastern Missouri formally requested that the American Board of Anesthesiology suspend the board certification of the anesthesiologist who is slated to execute two Missouri inmates this fall.

U.S. District Judge Nanette Laughrey ruled on Sept. 9 that Morgan County has seven days to adopt a policy to notify senders of mail to inmates when their mail has been rejected. The American Civil Liberties Union of Eastern Missouri filed a suit in July.

The ACLU Missouri received a complaint from a parent with children attending Doniphan Elementary School. The family is not Christian and in previous discussions around Christmas events, has made clear to the children’s teachers that they do not want them exposed to an endorsement of Christianity.

The ACLU of Missouri filed an amicus brief in the Missouri Court of Appeals for the Eastern District on behalf of A.W., the mother of C.W., whose parental rights were terminated by the trial court.
