The ACLU of Missouri updated an LGBT Handbook with valuable information and resources for Missouri. This version was last updated in June of 2015.
Introduction
In the state of Missouri and throughout the United States, people are denied housing, employment, and civil rights because of their sexual identity. In the past few years, much change has occurred in the state of Missouri’s mindset regarding lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender rights. For example, in the past five years, 17 cities in Missouri passed non-discrimination ordinances covering sexual orientation and gender identity. In 2014, three counties in Missouri (Jackson County, St. Louis City and St. Louis County) began issuing marriage licenses to same-sex couples. This handbook is published by the American Civil Liberties Union of Missouri as an informational and educational service to help LGBT Missourians and allies stay up-to-speed with the changing political and cultural landscape.
In this handbook, terms are defined as follows:
LGBT: Lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender sexual orientations or gender identities.
