Jeffrey Mittman, executive director of the ACLU of Missouri, issued the following statement regarding the Ferguson City Council's unanimous vote to accept the U.S. Department of Justice's consent decree:
The Ferguson City Council’s decision to adopt the Department of Justice consent decree shows progress in St. Louis and a meaningful step in the right direction for fair and unbiased policing.
We will remain dedicated to advancing better policing in the state of Missouri to ensure that the people of Ferguson, and all people in Missouri, are treated equally under the law.
