VIGIL HELD ON JUNE 26
This is what we did:
We held a vigil outside Senator Roy Blunt’s office. Community members brought pairs of shoes, and lined them up—a symbolic image of the shoes left to fill with parents being split from their children (if immigration reform does not happen now). In addition, a group of community leaders met with Senator Blunt’s staff to tell them that Missouri does want immigration reform.
Why did we do it? To get Roy Blunt to vote YES on Immigration Reform.
Roy Blunt’s inaction limits Missourian’s freedom and opportunity.
"I don't know what the polling is in Missouri but I still think that I spend as much time in the entire state of Missouri as anybody alive does.” –Roy Blunt June 19th, 2013, St. Louis Post Dispatch
“72 percent either strongly supports or somewhat supports the legislation debated now in the Senate” –St. Louis Post Dispatch
- In the same survey, 41 percent self-identified themselves as Republican compared to 32 percent who self-identified as Democrat.
- Additionally, 58 percent stated that they are more likely to vote for an elected official who votes for immigration reform.
Missourians want an inclusive immigration process. What will it take for Roy Blunt to get the message?
