Janae “Justice” Gatson will work with community organizations across Western Missouri for outreach and grassroots organizing with the ACLU of Missouri.

The ACLU of Missouri has hired a new organizer to help deepen the ACLU’s connections with community groups in Western Missouri and protect the rights of all Missourians.

Justice Gatson is a native of the Kansas City area and is an advocate for many issues, including women’s rights, disability rights and the empowerment of people of color. Justice is the founder of Reale Justice Network and a core member of One Struggle KC.

“We are happy to have Justice join our team. Someone with her unique skillset and passion for the intersectionality of these causes will be a dynamic organizer,” said Jeffrey Mittman, ACLU of Missouri executive director. “Her commitment to collaboration will help our organization be a stronger advocate and ally.”

Justice holds a bachelor’s degree in mass communications from Bennett College in Greensboro, N.C. She is also a community health worker and trained doula. She is always seeking new ways to reach out to and support the rights of underserved communities.

“We are tackling some of the most critical issues of our lifetime. I’m elated that I will be able to make sure local community members have a voice in shaping the landscape of their future," Gatson said. “My goal is to build a strong base of progressive-thinking individuals who will take action whenever our civil liberties are at stake.”
